So I am watching the interview with David Simon about Treme. And watching the bit with John Goodman. Listening to him saying Ashley's words.
And all I can think of is How fucked up this is. Thinking how much insecure Ash was, how he thought nobody took him seriously. Always doubting himself. Always trying to be better, smarter, more informed. Always thinking that his work does not really mean much to anybody.
And now he is a character in a movie! Movie by David Simon whom he admired tremendously.
Now the whole US will finally hear him. They will hear what he was saying 4 years ago. His work will finally have a meaning. To hundreds, maybe thousands.
And how fucked up is it that this happened after his death. I don't know what he would do if he saw this. Being portrait by John Goodman. Him, a poor boy from Pensacola. A son of a used-cars salesman. I wonder if he would finally believe that he meant a lot to a lot of people. That he changed this world without knowing it.

Hana... His voice was what so many didn't know how to express. The power of his voice is still here and amazingly pertinent and inside each and every one of us in the city. Seeing it portrayed on screen is one of many such proofs.

Hi, my name's Danny Gallagher. I'm a blogger with TVSquad.com and a lost New Orleans native. I've been reading this blog ever since I learned about 'Treme' and wanted to see about doing a short interview with Mrs. Morris about the show. Sorry for leaving a comment. I couldn't find an email address to send a letter to and didn't want to just call anyone out of the blue. You can reach me at the above email address. I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks.

As soon as I heard John Goodman ranting at the foot of the CCC, I knew exactly who he was playing -- just as I knew, that Twelfth Night at Wet Bank's, just who was behind me in the kitchen as soon as he let loose that pure, refreshing stream of profanity!

Hearing Ashley's words come out of John Goodman is a bit surreal, even for me (just a fan) so I can't imagine how it must feel to be his family and see it.
But it is so right, and fitting, and true to see Treme and have it include Ashley's words. He spoke for so many of us, who are less talented with language, but who felt the same anger, the same disappointment.
A little bit of Ashley lives as long as we remember him and his work. David Simon just made it easier for us to share with others what we all knew all along.
Sending love and hugs to all his family,
Claire

Unlike many of the folks posting, I did get to meet Ashley & Hana, long nefore Katrina at the raisins reunion show at top cats in Cincy. Two great and wonderful people. I am so glad that same passion and love that Ash gave towards the raisins and psychodots he of course showed for HIS New Orleans. Though I only exchanged a couple of emails and a few passing moments at a concert, Ash you touched me as you have New Orleans. I am glad you have not been forgotten or swept under a rug and I hope that the series does you at least half justice.

One thing I could say that, after browsing this article I obtained stored from the entire worthless search I ought to have made on this subject. Your write-up is a true great thing in disguise.

I'm not saying I agree with it, but I'm sure that's the reasoning behind it. (And like it or not, LSU's engineering programs are all ranked in the top 100.) I've been in a PhD program at Tulane for six years now and have worked at various levels of teaching and admissions. College beurocracies are the ugliest, most offensive processes in the country, and most of my friends at Tulane, my boyfriend (who taught at Loyola), and I have all lost our jobs. But, again, the point I made originally was about the importance of the programs they have decided not to cut. Why don't you bitch about the sports programs that they chose to maintain instead? Sports programs across the country - even the biggest - take economic losses at every major university every year. And Tulane sports programs? I don't think I need to break that one down.

Don't be surprised if a law is psseas that limits the liability of off shore producers in claims in Louisiana. The doctors got a $500,000.00 cap in Louisiana 1976. Recently the punitive damages for crashing while hauling hazardous chemicals was revoked. This law is just one play in the playbook of let businesses do wahtever they want in louisiana and more business will come. It funny how the govt promised us that the Lottery and Gaming would make our schools the best-est--That tort reform would cause the fortune 500's to knock on our door and locate here. That if we reduced all taxes for big business and set up a fund with hundreds of millions of dollars to have a state subsidized "fraternity rush" party, that they would come. All lies or miscalculations---either way we fall for anything. This adley bill is a joke-- they have already sacked the castle, killed all the guards, pillaged and destroyed and now they want to hang the messengers. If the legislature can do this, then anything is possible.

before, stick to your cat5 cables. Just bauecse you saw a movie 20 years ago hardly qualifies you as the legal authority here. At least start out by taking a few poli-sci classes at BPCC and work your way up from there.

My heart just cried a lil bit. Why would anyone put on such a skecth? On a train no less. For that matter, what's the purpose in making a film that depicts such a sad story? What's the moral here? I'm stuck. Is it to say that love is only a thing of performance, of art? Sort of like saying, that only exists in the movies? That a grand and over the top declaration of love isn't reality?I'm corn fused. Please, someone, enlighten me. S'totes buggin.
