My brother-in-law died today.
Well, I call him my brother-in-law, but the specifics are here, if you're interested. He had an interesting life: was in the Coast Guard in Alaska, loved south Florida, was a huge Miami Hurricanes and Miami Dolphin fan.
He looked like an extra on the Sopranos, and always had perfectly coiffed hair.
He taught me how to grill, and he appreciated a good steak more than anyone I've ever known.
He, along with Warren Zevon, turned me on to Carl Hiaasen.
One year, for Christmas, I got him a personalized Dolphins jersey, with his last name across the back, and the number 69.
He was more proud of me getting a PhD than I was. When I finally graduated, he got me a personalized Saints jersey, with the number 00 and the name "DR. MORRIS". So that's why I'm called Dr. Morris; because that's what Kenny called me.
Godspeed, Kenny.
The whole thing is an amazing story. Given the whole picture, that's a dignified tribute you've given him.

I and no doubt many others are touched by this post. We will remember Kenny and you in our thoughts and prayers.

Good grief, Ashley. I'm sorry to hear this. I have to ditto Mr. Clio's sentiments. You are a gentleman.

Whoever Kenny was, it's great that you were able to reconcile to the extent you did before his passing. It's a lot more than my family can ever muster. Hugs to you, Ashley.

Thanks, everyone.
To clarify, Ken was not my biological father; he was my "sister"'s husband for the last 15 or so years. He was a friend.
