Ochsner bought 3 of Tenet's hospitals that were on the market: Memorial Medical Center, Meadowcrest Hospital in Gretna and Kenner Regional Medical Center. They passed on Lindy Boggs, saying it was too far gone, structurally.
Is this good news? I think so. Ochsner is well respected, and since they aren't a mega-chain of for-profit hospitals (can there be a more vile privatization? Oh yeah, for-profit prisons) like HCA, Tenet, HealthSouth, they may operate more humanely.
From my time in healthcare (at the 2nd biggest HMO in California), and from speaking with nurses and doctors, I found that the insurance has the biggest effect on patient care and satisfaction, but the hospital management had the biggest effect on staff satisfaction. So the staff at the 3 Tenet hospitals should be happier.
However, a friend that broke the story to me, and who happens to work at Ochsner simply said: "Oh well, there goes any thought of a raise for the next three years".
Let's hope not.
