Ashley Morris: the blog: anger vs. contentment

People in New Orleans are the most laid back I've ever seen.

There used to be an old man that had a house across the street from me on Burdette. He would always wear his Garfield "Stressed Out" shirt while sitting on a lawn chair on the sidewalk smoking a blunt. I don't think the man exactly knew what stress was, but I ain't judgin' him.

Kermit Ruffins has it right when he sings "It's Later Than You Think". So right now, I'm enjoying my wireless internet at the house (who'd a thunk I'd type this: Thanks, Cox.), the gorgeous weather, and tonight I'm going to enjoy my 1-day-early Revillion meal at the Upperline, assuming the kids don't go ballistic.

I'm saying all this because I am still angry about the levees, Entergy, and just all the bleeping lies coming out of Washington. Today, though, I'm just happy to be home.

Props out to Mr. Clio (I still don't know whether to pronounce it KLEE-OH, KL-EYE-OH, or SEE-ELL-TEN) for his article on Ruth's Chris abandonment of NOLA. He's got pix, and more backstory.

Also, if you haven't seen them, take a gander at the linkeroos on your left. I try to keep this list current, so some things leave and some things come. The ones that you have to read today are World Class New Orleans, Your Right Hand Thief, People Get Ready, Humid Haney, da po' blog, and 2 million. Some astonishing crap is going on, and these guys are on top of it.

Tomorrow, I'm going to watch my Saints fight for the right to get the top pick in the draft, and I will probably go to a service at St. Rita's (a buddy plays there), and have lunch with an old prof from Tulane's School of Engineering. I'm getting some good info on how the actual elimination of certain engineering programs went down, and hopefully, Cowen will have no choice but to a) reinstate the programs and b) resign.

Also, turns out that a bunch of angry Tulane Engineering parents are looking at filing a class action lawsuit against Tulane to recoup the tuition they've already paid. The purpose isn't to hurt Tulane, it's to convince Cowen to reinstate the programs permanently.

Still, not one word from David Filo about the elimination of a program he donated $30M to. Cowen claims that Filo understands, and approved the reapportionment of his donation, but until I hear it from Filo, I ain't buyin' it.

Finally, check out this link. Here, Cowen claimed that Tulane "wants to break into the ranks of elite universities". Sorry, Scott. We thought we were already there. Then you came along...
