rambling rumblings

Chris Rose just admits he's begging for at least a walk-on role in K-ville.

WRBH turns 25. Happy birthday, and thanks to people like Tim Green for making it happen.

Pops was no Uncle Tom. "The way they are treating my people in the South, the government can go to hell." Now, more than ever.

As a mime myself, I must pay respects to Marcel Marceau. Trivia: Marceau was General Patton's French translator, and his father died in Auschwitz.

The USACE is suggesting a residential buyout in Bay St. Louis. This would include a buyout of Pete Fountain's place, as well as a place I tried to buy in 2002. "At stake is 60 percent of the land mass in the city of Bay St. Louis."

In the same article, the Times-Picayune shows their grasp of the obvious with this header: "Uncertainty stalls recovery". Duh.

I'm planning on teaching a class in the Spring based on this curriculum. I anticipate shedding tears at least every other class. Tell me what you think.

A sign posted in front of the door of Guy's Po-boys: 2 weeks. Yea!

On the plane from Chicago on Friday night, I ran into another guy that commutes. He goes up to Chicago on Monday mornings, and flies back on Friday nights. All for the love of NOLA.

Harry Shearer found another article that should make you angry. It's from the WaPo, and looks at the flood causing "enduring depression". Speaking of which, it's good to see that John McCusker is still working at the T-P.

Krewe du Vieux picked "Magical Misery Tour" as a theme this year. My suggestions were "March of the Buffoons" and of course, "THANKS HOUSTON". I also nominated Karen Gadbois as royalty...

So Flanders wants to separate from Wallonia. Uh, why don't you ask the Czechs and Slovaks before you do this, OK? And if it works, I'll talk to Shane Landry about South Louisiana and Secession. Landry: "We have food and we can turn on the lights. That's all you need for a civilization."

Blackwater faces charges in Iraq. Good riddance. OK, since everybody is twisting words for their own purposes (pro-choice v pro-life, instead of pro-abortion or anti-abortion), let's take this opportunity to add a bit of honesty. Blackwater are not contractors -- they are mercenaries. Since when does the federal government hire mercenaries? Why aren't we hiring guys like Roland, the Headless Thomson Gunner?

So, I think mercenaries should be shot on sight. They're hired killers, for crying out loud. I hope the Iraqi government finds them guilty, lines them up against a wall, and shoots them all. The idea that the government of the US hires mercenaries to fight is ludicrous. Why? This is being done simply to avoid having to pay benefits for traditional soldiers, and to avoid paying them decent salaries. Also, and more importantly for this administration, it's being done so that friends of the administration can make billions of dollars.

I saw the obit on Marcel Marceau this morning, and though of you.

Right now, I hate Northwest air. My 3.5 hour trip is now turning into an 8 hour trip (which I could have driven). Now I am stuck in Dallas airport. HELL. There are no mimes here.

Sorry 'bout the flight. However, you have presented me with a conundrum.

There are no mimes in Dallas.
There are mimes everywhere in hell.
Dallas is hell.

Sounds like a Star Trek episode: http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/I,_Mudd

I agree about Blackwater -- They're there because it's easier to get hired guns over there than more troops. Plus, i'd be willing to bet that the mercs aren't bound by the same rules as our military.

The whole thing is a fiasco.

I ask this... If you took all the money we've spent on the military in Iraq and invested it in energy research and capital expenditures, couldn't we rid ourselves of the "need" to go control the oil?

Woohah, teaching the levees. Talk about a difficult subject. I'd do the research and see how I felt about THAT. Overall, though, I think the harrowing nature of the subject matter can be overcome enough to teach a meaningful, informative class.

Go for it, mime boy.

I think Blackwater is going to end up with a slap on the wrist, not expulsion from Iraq. At worst the State Department will choose a new shell company and use all the Blackwater employees as subcontractors. Nothing will change in Iraq until we leave. The occupation of Iraq is immoral and always will be. Being nicer, more restrained occupiers is going to help in the long run.

Make it stop, Carmen.

The only time the word Royalty has been used in connection with my name has been Royal Pain in the Ass.

Pops told it solid.

"We are just showing the world what they refuse to hear." Ya gotta love it...

Patton quoted in "The War" on PBS last night:
"Some soldiers can walk, some can shoot. When you have soldiers that can walk and shoot, then you're pissing with Napoleon through the same straw."
