A stronger leg, but...
...nobody has as much class as John Carney, who was released today by the Saints.

To the Faithful of New Orleans:My time of wearing the Fleur de Lis has come to a close. For six seasons, I have been blessed and privileged to represent the most faithful, loyal fans that the NFL has to offer. This was never so evident than during this magical season of 2006. Monday night football will never reach the pitch and purpose it met on the night of September 25th.
New Orleans is a city regaining its strength and swagger, and the Saints are proud to be leading the way. My family and I have been forever imprinted with the style, culture and kindness of the South. Through triumphs and tragedies, the perseverance and integrity of the New Orleans' people is far stronger than politics and hurricanes.
I leave New Orleans a far better man, looking for a team in need of a wrinkled foot, sure to soon be missing great friends of the South, with the knowledge that my taste buds will always yearn for one more Drago's charbroiled oyster!
May God bless the city of New Orleans. Thank ya'll for the support and class you showed me during my Saint's career. Best wishes and God speed,
John Carney

Best wishes to John Carney, who deserved better.
You have giant shoes to fill, Mr Mare.
His goodbye letter is all class. Carney's game winnink kick against the Panthers in the first game after the federal flood will go down as one of the greatest moments in the history of the Saints.

Total class. I can almost forgive him for going to Notre Dame now. LOL
As for Olindo Mare....he was long a stalwart on most every fantasy football team I've had. I know he missed a lot of FGs last season, but I think ten of them were over 50 yards.

Compare Carney's statement to Mr. Horn's.
Ouch.

Yes I was just thinking as I read this that Joe should be taking notes.
Ugh . .. I am so cranky about this. This is definitely the dark spot this offseason.

Remember how he missed the XP after the River City Relay? Remember, more importantly, how it was never an issue?
Remember the 7 1/2 minute drive against Philadelphia? Did *anybody* doubt that Carney would make the FG? Anybody?
He was always Mr. Automatic from inside 50. For years, we had Berger to handle the kickoffs. Well, last year Berger got hurt, and Carney paid the price.

Just a great, eloquent statement.

I was a big fan of Carney when I lived in San Diego. He gives quite a bit back to the community. I do remember though after the River City Shuffle play how he missed the xtra point that would have sent the game into overtime. But otherwise, sad to see him go.
